KONA, HI, May 7, 2018 - Zenith Chairman Jack Miller was honored with the Ramsden-Sullivan Memorial Award this week during the 2018 Blue Ribbon Conference.
The Ramsden/Sullivan Memorial Award is the most prestigious award IIBACal bestows on an individual, and is given only when a deserving individual merits this high honor, not necessarily annually.
"The Ramsden/Sullivan Memorial Award is given to an individual who truly exemplifies service to the American Agency System and the insurance industry, has an outstanding record of service to IIABCal and to their community, and has worked to improve the images of insurance brokers and independent agents - Jack Miller is such an individual," IIABCal President Todd Williams said.
"Jack is admired not only for his accomplishments, but also for the people he surrounds himself with and the impact he has in helping them become the best they can be," Williams said. "He is known for his integrity, values, deep relationships and wisdom."
Miller has been in the insurance industry for more than 45 years. He started his career with The Insurance Company of North America in 1970 in Los Angeles (INA became CIGNA Corporation in 1982). During his 17 years with INA/CIGNA, he held several executive positions throughout the U.S., including the Presidency of CIGNA’s offshore operations on the island of Bermuda.
In 1987 Miller joined Industrial Indemnity, a San Francisco based workers’ compensation specialist. He was Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer until 1994 at which time he was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer. Industrial Indemnity, which was a Xerox Financial Services Company, was sold in 1997.
Shortly after the sale of Industrial Indemnity, Jack joined the Zenith Insurance Company as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. Jack was promoted to President September 2, 2004, Vice Chairman March 1, 2010, and President and Chief Executive Officer January 1, 2012. On January 1, 2015, he transferred out of the Chief Executive role to become Chairman.
Over his entire career, Miller has been a supporter of independent insurance agents and brokers, including the many valuable contributions in his role as IIABCal Associate Director.
In 2005, Miller was recognized by the City of Hope and the California Insurance Council with the Spirit of Life Award. This prestigious honor is presented to individuals who represent the intangible qualities that make an individual’s life worthy of admiration: their generosity, their ability to inspire and their desire to make a difference in the world.
