IIABCal Leader Bill Bolton Passes Away

SOUTH PASADENA, CA, Oct. 12, 2016 - IIABCal Past President and Ramsden-Sullivan Memorial Award Recipient Bill Bolton passed away this past week leaving behind a legacy of professionalism and volunteer commitment to the insurance industry he served.

"Bill Bolton always gave more than he got, which is why he will be so sorely missed by so many," said Jerry O'Kane, former CEO of IIABCal. "We lost one of our best."

As a graduate from the University of California, Berkeley, Haas School of Business, with an emphasis in Risk Management, Bolton began his insurance career at Industrial Indemnity Company and joined Bolton & Company in 1967.  By 1970, he and his brother, Jim, took over Bolton & Company Insurance Brokers from their father, growing it into one of the top 100 largest insurance brokerages in the U.S.

Bolton was Chairman of Assurex Global, and 17 years as a Director of Professional Agents Reinsurance Company, Ltd., a Bermuda-based reinsurer. He also served on the advisory committees of The Travelers Insurance Company, Atlantic Mutual Insurance Company, St. Paul Fire & Marine Company and Industrial Indemnity Company. 

He served as President of the Western Association of Insurance Brokers (now IIABCal) and as chairman of the IIABCal Blue Ribbon Conference Committee.  In 1999, he was honored as the recipient of the Ramsden/Sullivan Memorial Award, the highest individual honor given by IIABCal.

In addition, Bolton authored countless articles on insurance and risk management related topics. After 42 years in the Insurance Industry, Bill sold his interest in Bolton & Company to its management.

 

Survivors include his wife Linda, mother Helen, brother James, and children Lisa Singelyn and Patrick, stepson Michael Britton, and grandchildren Michael, Matthew and Ashlyn Singelyn, Lauren and Luke Bolton, and Steven and Nicholas Britton.

A Funeral Mass will be held for Bill, Tuesday, October 18, at 10:00 am at the Holy Family Church,1501 Fremont Ave., South Pasadena, CA.  Please carpool if possible, parking limited. Reception to follow at the Annandale Golf Club, 1 North San Rafael, Pasadena.
